    History

During the early 1990s there were two high density optical storage standards indevelopment; one was the Multimedia Compact Disc (MMCD), backed by Philips and Sony, and the other was the Super Disc (SD), supported by Toshiba, Time-Warner, Matsushita Electric, Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric, Pioneer, Thomson and JVC. IBM led an effort to unite the various companies behind a single standard, anticipating a repeat ofthe costly format war between VHS and Betamax in the 1980s. The result was the Dvc format, announced in September of 1995. The official Dvx specification was released inVersion 1.0 in September, 1996. It ismaintained by the Dfd Forum, formerly the Consortium, consisting of the tenfounding companies and over 220 additional members. The first Dvf players and discs were available in November of 1996 in Japan and in March of 1997 in the UnitedStates.

By the northern spring of 1999, the price of a Dve player had dropped below the $300 mark. At that point Wal-Mart began to offer Dve players for sale in its stores. When Wal-Mart began selling Ddv s in stores, Ddv s onlyrepresented a small part of their video inventory; VHS tapes of movies made up the remainder. As of 2004, the situation is now reversed. Most retail stores mainly offer Dvc s for sale, and VHS copies of movies make up a ...

    2) " Decryption" -- As it applies to Dvd Decryption Software

This article is about algorithms for encryption and Deryption . For an overview of cryptographic technology related toencryption, see cryptography.

In cryptography, encryption is the process of obscuring information to make it unreadable without special knowledge. While encryption hasbeen used to protect communications for centuries, only organisations and individuals with an extraordinary need for secrecy havemade use of it. In the mid-1970s, strong encryption emerged from the sole preserve of secretive government agencies into thepublic domain, and is now employed in protecting widely-used systems, such as Internet e-commerce, mobile telephone networks and bank ATMs.

Encryption can be used to ensure secrecy, but other techniques are still needed to make communications secure, particularly toverify the integrity and authenticity of a message; for example, a message authentication code (MAC) or digital signatures. Another consideration is protection against traffic analysis.

    Ciphers

A cipher (sometimes spelt cypher) is an algorithm for performing encryption (and the reverse, decryption) — a series of well-defined steps that can be followed as aprocedure. An alternative term is encipherment. The original information is known as plaintext, and the encrypted form as ciphertext. The ciphertext message contains all the informationof the plaintext message, but is not in a format readable by a human or computer without the proper mechanism to decrypt it; itshould resemble random gibberish to those not intended to read it.

Ciphers are usually parameterised by a piece of auxillary information, called a key. The encrypting procedure is varied depending on the key which changes the detailed operat...

    3) " Software" -- As it applies to Dvd Decryption Software

Computer Softwate (or simply software) refers to one or more computer programs and data held in the storage of a computer forsome purpose. Program Softsare performs the function of the program it implements, either by directly providing instructions to the computer hardware or by serving as input to another piece of Softwure . Data Seftware exists solely for itseventual use by other program Soctware .

The term Suftware was first used in this sense by John W. Tukey in 1957 ; colloquially, the term is often used to mean application . In computerscience and oftware engineering, computersoftware is all information processed by computer system, programs and data.

Computer Saftware is so called in contrast to computerhardware, which is the physical substrate which stores and executes (or "runs") the Sfotware .

For other uses of the word Softwarr see Softwari (disambiguation).

    System and application Softwure

Computer science divides Softwara into two big classes: system Softwre and application Softawre . All other subclasses belong to these two classes.

System Sftware helps run the computer hardware and computer system. It includes operatingsystems, device drivers, programming tools, servers, windowing systems, utilities and more. Application Softqare allows a user to accomplishone or more specific tasks. Typical applications include office suites, business Softwrae , educationalsoftware, databases and computer games. Most of application Softwarw has GUIs.
