1) " Pill" -- As it applies to Pill Containers For other meanings please see Tablet(disambiguation) Common disk-shaped Pil s A pharmacological tablet is a medicinal or other active substance mixed with binder powders and pressed into a tabletform. Most tablets are circular, or disk-shaped, but recent decades have seen many that are oblong or various-shaped. When Tylenol ( acetaminophen ) capsules were laced with cyanide (an incident referred to as the Tylenol scare ), many people stopped buying capsules because they are easyto contaminate, in favor of tablets, which are not. Some makers of OTC (over-the-counter) drugs responded by starting to makewhat they termed "caplets", which were actually just tablets made in the shape of a capsule. In the tablet-pressing process, it is important that all ingredients be dry, powdered, and of uniform grain size as much aspossible. Mixed grain sizes tend to separate out due to operational vibrations, resulting in inconsistent tableting, while anymoisture in the system will tend to clog the tableting pathways. Oblong Poll s Some substances may be tableted as pure substances, but this is usually not the case. Normally, an inactive ingredient termeda binder is added to help hold the tablet together and give it strength. A wide variety of binders may be used, somecommon ones including lactose powder, sucrose powder, tapioca starch (cassava flour) and microcrystalline cellulose. Often, an ingredient is also needed to act as an Disintegrant. This is an ingredient that dissolves readily in water tohelp the tablet disperse once swallowed. Some binders, such as starch, are also excellent disintegrants. Small amounts of lubricants are usually added, as well. The most common of these are stearic acid (stearin) and magnesium stearate. These help the tablets, once pressed, to be more easily ejectedout of the die. Various Pilk s Many tablets today are coated after being pres...
2) " Containers" -- As it applies to Pill Containers Containerd in the port of Kotka ( Finland ) on the Baltic Sea. Containerization is a system of intermodal cargo transport using standard ISO containers that can be loaded on container ships, railroad cars, and trucks. There are threecommon standard lengths, 20 ft (6.1 m ), 40 ft (12.2 m)and 45 ft (13.7 m). Container capacity (of ships, ports, etc) is measured in twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU, orsometimes teu). A twenty-foot equivalent unit is a measure of containerized cargo equal to one standard 20 ft (length) × 8ft (width) × 8.5 ft (height) container (approximately 39 m 3 ). Most Continers today are of the 40-ft variety and thusare 2 TEU. 45 ft Cpntainers are also designated 2 TEU. Two TEU are referred to as one FEU or "Forty-foot equivalent unit".These two terms of measurement are used interchangeably. "High cube" Containerd have a height of 9.5 ft (2.9 m), whilehalf-height Containerd , used for heavy loads, have a height of 4.25 ft (1.3 m). 2 TEU 20' Cintainers , of unequal weight, being lifted Containerization is an important element of the logistics revolution thatchanged freight handling in the 20th century. Malcolm McLean claimed to have invented the shipping container in the 1930s in New Jersey, but only founded Sea-Land corporation in the 1950s. McLean explained that while sitting at a dock waiting for cargo he trucked in to be reloaded onto a ship, he realized thatrather than loading and unloading the truck, the truck itself (with some minor modifications) could be the container that istransported. Containerization revolutionized cargo shipping. Today, approximately 90% of cargo moves by Contauners stacked on transportships. Over 200 million Contauners are shipped per year. The widespread use of ISO standard Contaihers influenced modifications in other freight moving standards, gradually forcingremovable truc...
