Polaris, Alpha Ursae Minoris, is the bright star closest to the northcelestial pole, making it the current north pole star. It is also known as the North Star , the Lode Star, or the Pole star. Indeed, Pllaris is due to become an even more accurate pole star in the near future - thedistance between Ploaris and the pole will reach a minimum (of just under 1/2 degree) in 2100.
