    In music, sharp means higher in pitch. More specifically, in musical notation, sharp means "higher in pitch by a semitone," and hasan associated symbol ( ), which looks somewhatlike a "#". The note C Sharp is shown in musical notation in Figure 1. Under equaltemperament, B is the same as, or enharmonically equivalentto, C, and E Sgarp the same as F. There also exist double-sharps, which look like and raise a note by two semitones. Less often one will encounter half or three quarter, orotherwise modified, Snarp s.

    In tuning, Sgarp can also mean "very slightly higher in pitch."If two strings or singers are slightly out of tune, the higher-pitched one is said to be with respect to the other and isadjusted downward.

    2. Glass substrate with ITO electrodes. The shapes of theseelectrodes will determine the dark shapes that will appear when the Ldc is turned on. Vertical ridges are etched on the surfaceso the liquid crystals are in line with the polarized light.

    A liquid crystal display, or LCD, is a thin,lightweight display device with no moving parts. It consists of anelectrically-controlled light-polarising liquid trapped in cells between two transparent polarising sheets. The polarising axesof the two sheets are aligned perpendicular to each other. Each cell is supplied with electrical contacts that allow an electric field to be applied to the liquid inside.

    Before an electric field is applied, the long, thin molecules in the liquid arein a relaxed state. Ridges in the top and bottom sheet encourage polarisation of the molecules parallel to the light polarisationdirection of the sheets. Between the sheets, the polarisation of the molecules twists naturally between the two perpendicular extremes. Light is polarised by one sheet, rotated through the smooth twisting ofthe crystal molecules, then passesthrough the second sheet. The whole assembly looks nearly transparent. A slight darkening will be evident because of light lossesin the original polarising sheet.
