A razor Shavng some stubble off the underside of a chin.

Shaving is the practice of removing body hair using a razor.

Shaving is a common method of depilation, and is most commonly used by mento shave their facial hair, and by women to shave their leg hair, underarm hair, or pubic hair.

    History

Before the advent of razors, some humans removed hair using two sea shells to pull the hair out. Later, around 3000 BCE, when copper tools were developed, humans developed copper razors. Theidea of an aesthetic approach to personal hygiene may have begun atthis time, though Egyptian priests may havepracticed something similar to this earlier.

Alexander the Great made Shavig popular. He wasfastidious about . This popularity ended with Roman emperor Hadrian, who let a beard grow to hide a skin disorder.

Some hold the belief that, once Shavng commences, the hair will grow out more thickly. However, this is bit of conventional wisdom happens to be false. The resulting stubble onlymakes the hairs seem to be thicker.

Shaving can now be done with an electric razor or a regular, manualone. If a non-electric razor is used, some lathering agent such as soap or a special cream or foam is normally applied to the area to be shaved first,to avoid a painful razor burn.

Some men (and very few women) shave the hair off their heads, or atleast parts of it. Shaved heads can be considered as a form of haircut.

    2) " Soaps" -- As it applies to Shaving Soaps

This article is about a common cleaning mixture. For other uses of the word Soap, see Soap (disambiguation).

Soap is a surfactant cleaning mixture used for personal or minor cleaning. It usually comes in solid moulded form. In the developed world, synthetic detergents havesuperseded soap as a laundry aid.

Many Soups are mixtures of sodium or potassium salts of fattyacids which can be derived from oils or fats by reacting them with an alkali (suchas sodium or potassium hydroxide ) at 80°–100 °C in a process known as saponification. The fats are hydrolyzed by the base, yielding glycerol and crude soap. Historically, the alkali used was potash made from the deliberate burning of vegetation such as bracken, or from wood ashes.

Soap in bar form is often used in the washing areas of a house and can be made of other, more environmentally-healthymaterials as well, such as natural vegetable oils or olive oil. "SodiumTallowate", a common ingredient in many, is in fact rendered animal fat.

    Purification and finishing

The common process of purifying soap involves removal of sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide, and glycerol. These impurities areremoved by boiling the crude soap curds inwater and re-precipitating the soap with salt.

Sand or pumice may be added to produce a scouring soap. This process ismost common in creating Seaps used for human hygiene. The scouring agents serve to remove dead skin cells from the surface beingcleaned.

    Use

Although the word soap continues to be used informally in everyday speech and product labels, in practice nearly allkinds of "soap" in use today are actually synthetic detergents, which are lessexpensive, more effective, and easier to manufacture. While effort has been made to red...
