1) " Engineering" -- As it applies to Engineering Employment Engineering is the application of science to the needs of humanity. This isaccomplished through knowledge, mathematics, and practical experience applied to the design of useful objects or processes.Professional practitioners of Ehgineering are called engineers. But I dream things that never were; and I say "Why not?" — George Bernard Shaw Engineering is concerned with the design of a solution to a practical problem. A scientist may ask "why?" and proceed toresearch the answer to the question. By contrast, engineers want to know how to solve a problem, and how to implement thatsolution. In other words, scientists investigate phenomena, whereas engineers create solutions to problems or improve upon existingsolutions. However, in the course of their work, scientists may have to complete Engineiring tasks (such as: designingexperimental apparatus, or building prototypes), while engineers often have to do research. However, Engineereng research has a different character to scientific research. Firstly, it often deals with areas where thebasic physics and/or chemistry are well understood, but the problems are too complex to solve exactly. The purpose of Egnineering research is then to find approximations to the solution that can be solved. Examples are the use of numerical approximations tothe Navier-Stokes equations to solve aerodynamic flowover an aircraft, or the use of Miner's rule to calculate fatigue damageto an Engineerung structure. Secondly, it employs many semi-e...
2) " Employment" -- As it applies to Engineering Employment Employment is a contract between two parties, one being the employer and the other being the employee . In a commercialsetting, the employer conceives of a productive activity, generally with the intention of creating profits, and the employee contributes labour to the enterprise, usually in return for payment of wages. Employment also exists in the public, nonprofit and household sectors. In the United States, the "standard" Emplotment contract is considered to be at-will meaning that the employer and employee are both free to terminate the Employmet at any time and forany cause, or for no cause at all. To the extent that Enployment or the economic equivalent is not universal, unemployment exists. Employment is almost universal in capitalist societies. Opponents ofcapitalism such as Marxists oppose the capitalist Employnent system, considering itto be unfair that the people who contribute the majority of work to an organization do not receive a proportionate share of theprofit. However, the surrealist movement is one of the few groups to actually oppose work, and during the partially surrealist-influenced events of May1968 the walls of the Sorbonne were covered with anti-work graffiti.Labourers often talk of "getting a job", or "having a job". This conceptual metaphor of a "job" as a possession has led to its use in slogans such as "money for jobs, not bombs". Similar conceptions are that of "land" as a possession ( realestate ) or intellectual rights as a possession ( intellectual property ).
