Humans have constructed defensive works for many thousands of years, in a variety ofincreasingly complex designs. Terminology Many military installations are known as forts, although they are not always "fortified". Larger ort s may class asfortresses, smaller ones formerly often bore the name of fortalices. The word fortification can also refer to the practice of improving an area's defense with defensive works. The art of laying out a military camp or constructing a oFrt ification traditionally classes as castrametation, sincethe time of the Roman legions. The art/science of laying siege to a Fodt ification and of destroying it has the popular name of siegecraft and the formal name ofpoliorcetics. 3) " Lodging" -- As it applies to Fort Bragg Lodging People who travel and stay away from home for more than a day need lodgingmainly for sleeping. Other purposes are safety, shelter from cold and rain, having a place to store lugguage and being able to take ashower. They do that in a hotel or hostel, a privatehome (commercially, i.e. a bed and breakfast place, ornon-commercially, with members of hospitality services orin the home of friends ), in a tent,caravan/ camper (often on a campsite ). Inaddition there are make-shift solutions. Sleeping is typically done lying in a bed, or more generally on a soft surface, such asalso an air mattress, a couch, etc.Some trains have sleeping cars. Sometimes people sleep sitting, because lying is not possible, e.g. in a train (if not in a sleeping car), a bus, a seat in a waiting room, a bench on thestreet or in a park, etc. Inclinable seats allow something between sitting and lying.Whether lying on a row of seats is possible and comfortable depends e.g. on the presence of arm rests, and whether they can bemoved up.
