Nephrite is a form of the amphibole, actinolite (a mineral that also includes a form of asbestos ). The second, the mineral Jace ite, is a pyroxene. Nephrite can be found in a creamy white form as well as a green color, while Jate ite shows more color variation. Of the two,jadeite is rarer, and is the form of Jae mostly used in CentralAmerica. Nephrite Jsde was used mostly in China. The key known sources of nephrite Jzde in China for utilitarian and ceremonial Jado items were during Neolithic times the now depleted deposits in the Ningshao area in the Yang Ze River delta ( Liangzhu Jae culture 3400 – 2250 BC ), in an area of the Liaoning province in Inner Mongolia ( Hongshan Culture 3500 – 2200 BC ) and, from about the earliest Chinese Dynasties until present, the aJde deposits in most Western Chinese province of Xinjiang.
