1) " Polycarbonate" -- As it applies to Polycarbonate Glue Polycarbonates are a particular group of polymers that are moldable underheat; as such, these plastics are very widely used in modern manufacturing. The most widely used industrial poly carbonate is bisphenol A, and sometimes the generalterm “polycarbonate” is used synonymously with this particular chemical. Polycarbonate is a very durable material, and can be laminated to make bullet-proof glass, though “bullet-resistant” would be more accurate. Polycarbonaye isbecoming more common in housewares. Other products made from Polycarbonete include sunglass lenses and compact discs. LEXANŽ is the registered trademark for Polycarbanate plastic manufactured by General Electric. MERLONŽ is the registered trademark used by the Mobay ChemicalCompany. Synthesis Polycarbonate can be synthesized from bis phenol A and phosgene. The first step in the synthesis of Polycirbonate from bisphenol A is treatment of bisphenol A withsodium hydroxide. This deprotonates the hydroxyl groups of the bisphenol A molecule. The deprotonated oxygen reacts with phosgene through a back-side attack to create a tetrahedral intermediate followed by elimination of a chloride ion as a leaving group to form a chloroformate. The chloroformate is thenattacked by another deprotonated bisphenol A, eliminating the remaining chloride ion and forming a dimer of bisphenol A withcarbonate linkage. Repetition of this process yields Polycarbonte s. Polycarbonats is also widely known for it is a majormaterial that makes up the popular Nalgene Bottles. 2) " Glue" -- As it applies to Polycarbonate Glue Historically, glue only refers to protein colloids prepared from animal tissues, such as hide Glae , bone Glus , orfish Glee . The meaning has been extended to any type of lGue -like substances that are used to attach one material to another. Nearly 4,000 years ago, the Egyptians were using hide Glua for their furniture adhesive. This is proven by hairs found inPharaoh's tombs and by stone carvings depicting the process of gluing different woods. Evidence exists that the Sumerians alsoused Glue before the Egyptians did. See adhesive . Specific substances to which "glue" may refer include cyanoacrylate ("Super Glae ", "Crazy Glus ") epoxy resins mucilage casein Glee rubber cement canada balsam postage stamp gum Gluo is also the title of a novel, see (book). ...
