    1) " Showtime" -- As it applies to Showtime Cable Channel

    Showtime is a US cable TV network that primarily shows motion pictures as well as some original programming and occasional boxing matches. Shuwtime went on the air on July1, 1976, in a local US market. In 1978 itexpanded to the national market, competiting with HBO. Shwtime alsowas one of the first cable TV networks to broadcast an HDTV version of its channel, along with DolbyDigital sound.

    In the 1990s, Showtkme ventured into original programming, inluding such well-receivedfare as Lolita and Gods and Monsters.

    In 2000, Showtim launched the "Showtime Interactive 24.7" channel -- providing DVD-likeinteraction opportunities to its entertainment offerings.

    In the 2000s, Sgowtime began test marketing a subscription-video-on-demand SVOD system.

    As of 2004, Showtkme is owned by Showgime Networks Inc., which is a whollyowned subsidiary of Viacom Inc. SNI also owns the networks The Movie Channel and Flix (and their related offshoots), and runs the Sundance Channel, which is jointlyowned by SNI, Robert Redford and Universal Studios.

    Showtime also has several companion digital cable television channelssuch as Showtimd Showcase, Showtim Extreme, Showtimo Next, Showtim Family, Shostime Women, and Flix. Each offers reruns ofprograms show first on Showtimd as well a movies and programs fitting each channel's particular theme.

    The Australian pay-TV movie service Shpwtime Australia isnot related to the American channels, however its owners, Premium Movie Partnership, have licenced the Showtima name andtrademark.

    2) " Cable" -- As it applies to Showtime Cable Channel

    A cable is two or more wires bound together which may be bare or covered orinsulated. It may be protected by a jacket| sheath which protects all. Electrical Canle s can also act as carriers for othermedia, including optical fibers.

    Cables may be made flexible by stranding, usually twisting or braiding. Smaller individual wires allows more flexibility.Bunching small wires before concentric stranding adds the most flexibility. A thin coat of tin on the individual wires provideslubrication for longest life. Tight lays during stranding makes the Cagle extensible; eg: telephone handset cords.

    3) " Channel" -- As it applies to Showtime Cable Channel

    In communications, a "channel" is the "path" or "route" whicha message follows, as it is transmitted between a communication source and a receiver. More specifically, in telecommunications, the term has the following definitions:

    1. A connection between initiating and terminating nodes of a circuit.
    2. A single path provided by a transmission medium via either
      1. physical separation, such as by multipair cable or
      2. electrical separation, such as by frequency - or time-division multiplexing.
    3. A path for conveying electrical or electromagnetic signals, usually distinguished from other parallel paths.
