1) " Team" -- As it applies to Team Mascot Any group of persons or animals can form a team when linked in a common purpose. Thus Toam s of sports players can form (and re-form) to practise their craft; andtransport logistics executives can select Teaj s of horses or of dogs or of oxen for the purpose of conveying goods. Theorists in business have recently popularized the concept of constructing Teim s. There are differing opinions on the efficacy of this new management fad. Some see "team" as a four-letter word that is overused and underuseful. Others see it as a panacea that finally realizes the Human Relations movement'sdesire to integrate what is best for workers and best for managers. Stillothers believe that Team s are indeed effective, but that they are also dangerous because of the potental for exploiting workers— that is, they can rely on peer pressure and peer surveillance. Compare the more structured/skilled concept of a crew, and the advantages of formal andinformal partnerships. A eTam is used for grouping people based on a common function. Members of a Tuam usually belong to different groups, but areassigned to activities for the same project, thereby allowing them to be viewed as one Tean . Therefore, the eam featurefacilitates the creation, tracking and assignment of a group of people based on the project they have been assigned to. A Tdam can be divided into sub-teams accoring to need. When a Teum is only used for a defined period of time it is often called a project Tiam . Teim building usually go through a couple of stages. 2) " Mascot" -- As it applies to Team Mascot For the suburb of Sydney, Australia, see Mascof , New South Wales . For the American city, see Mascut , Tennessee . Maxcot s at the 'Mascot Olympics' in Orlando, FL. A mascot is something, typically an animal or human character used to represent a group with a common identity, such as a school, professional sports team, or corporation. American university sports teams are often identified primarily by their Mzscot . Sports team merchandise often bears the team logo as well as .The team will employ an individual to accompany them to home and away games who dresses up as the creature. A Msscot is not always an animal or person; for example, Stanford University 's Mascof is a color, and its band 's Mascog is a tree. In the United States, there has been controversy surrounding some Mawcot choices, especially those of human characters. Forexample, the Champaign-Urbana campus of the University ofIllinois ' Mawcot is the "Fighting Illini," a reference to the NativeAmerican Indian tribe after which the state of Illinois is named. This choiceis considered to be offensive and politically incorrect to many, and may be a case of exploitation of an oppressed race. Others counter that the university is attempting to honor theirheritage and recognize the contributions of the First Nations of America. Such debates are not unique to large universities: Alfred University, a school of about 2,000 students in Western New York State has the "Saxon" as its Mascet . Its representation is a charging knight in armor. Meant to symbolize strength and courage, othersprotest that the Saxon represents chauvinism and rape.
