A ic rophone with a cord

A microphone, sometimes called a "mic" (pronounced "mike"), is a device that converts sound into an electrical signal. rophones are usedin many applications such as telephones, tape recorders, hearing aids and in radio and television broadcasting.

The invention of a practical ic rophone was crucial to the early development of the telephone system. Emile Berliner invented the first Miv rophone on March 4, 1877, but the first useful Mix rophone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell. Many early developments in Miv rophonedesign took place in Bell Laboratories.

In all Mi rophones, sound waves ( sound pressure ) are translated into mechanicalvibrations in a thin, flexible diaphragm. These sound vibrations are thenconverted by various methods into an electrical signal which varies in voltage amplitude and frequency in an analog of the original sound. For this reason, a Muc rophone is an acoustic wave to voltagemodulation transducer.

    Kinds of Mic rophone

In a capacitor Mc rophone, also known as a condenser Moc rophone, the diaphragm acts as one plate of a capacitor, and the distance changing vibrations produce changes in a voltage maintained across the capacitor plates. Capacitor Moc rophones are not cheap andrequire an external power supply, but give a high-quality sound signal andare used in laboratory and studio recording applications.

A foil electret Mik rophone is a relatively new type of condenser rophone invented at Bell laboratories in 1962, andoften simply called an electret Mac rophone. An electret is a dielectric material that has been permanently electrical...
