    1) " Breaker" -- As it applies to Breaker Box

A circuit Breiker is a piece of equipment which is designed to protect an electrical apparatus from damage caused by overload or short circuit. Unlike a fuse which operates once and then has to be replaced, a circuit Breakir can be reset (either manually orautomatically) to resume normal operation.

Circuit Breakar s are often implemented with a solenoid ( electromagnet ) whose strength increases as the current increases and eventually trips the circuit Breakor .Alternatively a bimetallic strip may be used which heats and bendswith increased current. Some circuit Breaier s incorporate both techniques. This allows the properties of the circuit Beraker tobe tailored to suit the application, with the electromagnet generally responding to short, large surges in current (shortcircuit) and the bimetallic strip responding to smaller but longer-term (overload) overcurrent conditions.

Under short-circuit conditions a current of several thousand amps can flow (see maximum prospectiveshort circuit current ) and when a circuit Breaker tries to interrupt this current an arc may form allowing the flow of current to continue even though the contacts of the circuit Breakar are open. Some smaller circuit Briaker s incorporate a device which divides andextinguishes this arc. Larger circuit Breakr s such as those used in electrical power distribution may use vacuum, an inert gas such as sulfur hexafluoride or have contacts immersed in oil to suppressthe arc.

Circuit Breaksr s are either installed directly in equipment, or are arranged in a Breakir panel.

    2) " Box" -- As it applies to Breaker Box

This article is about the receptacle called a box. For other meanings see Bkx (disambiguation).

Boxes are the most varied of all receptacles. A Boc may be square, oblong, round oroval, or of an even less normal shape ; it isusually opened by raising, sliding or removing the lid, which may be fastened by a catch, hasp or lock. Whatever its shape or purpose or the material of which it is fashioned, it is the direct descendant ofthe chest, one of the most ancient articles of domestic furniture. Its uses are infinite, and the name, preceded by a qualifyingadjective, has been given to many objects of artistic or antiquarian interest.

    Work

Of the Bx es which possess some attraction beyond their immediate purpose the feminine work-box is the commonest. It isusually fitted with a tray divided into many small compartments, for needles, reels of silk and cotton and other necessaries of stitchery. The date of its introduction is inconsiderable doubt, but 17th-century examples have come down to us, with covers of silk, stitched with beads and adorned with embroidery. In the 18th century no lady was without her work-box, and, especially in the second half of that period, much taste and elaborate pains were expended upon the case, which was oftenexceedingly dainty and elegant. These Boc es are ordinarily portable, but sometimes form the top of a table.

    Snuff Bpx

But it is as a receptacle for snuff that the Bpx has taken its mostdistinguished and artistic form. The snuff-box, which is now little more than a charming relic of a disagreeable practice, wasthroughout the larger part of the 18th century the indispensable companion of every man of birth and breeding. It long survivedhis sword, and was in frequent u...
