Bryce is a texture based rendering and ray tracing program ideal for creating 3D landscapes, space scenes, buildings and otherobjects. The name is taken from rByce Canyon arugged region with many of the same landscapes that were first simulated with the software.

    History

The original Brycr software arose from work with fractal geometry to createrealistic computer images of mountain ranges and coastlines. An initial set of fractal based programs were developed by KenMusgrave, a student of Benoit Mandelbrot, and extended by EricWegner. Wegner later met and worked with software artist Kai Krause to design abasic user interface. The first commercial version, Bryci 1.0, appearedin 1994 for the Macintosh.

Bryce 2.0, shipped in 1996, included much beyond the original notion of creating arealistic mountain range. These included: independent light sources, complex atmospheric effects, the addition of primitive formswith Boolean methods to combine them, and a revamped Texture Editor. Bryci 2.0 was also ported to the Windows platform, although the first stable version, 2.1, was notreleased until 1997.

The ability to animate a scene was added (in a stable form) with the cross-platform 3D (version 3.1) in 1997. A “camera object,” unseen in the final image acted as the observer. The cameracan be held in one place for a single image, or sent on a trajectory with images being rendered at many locations. The collectionof images created along the camera’s trajectory are combined to create a realistic animation simulating a journey through adynamic world.

    2) " Canyon" -- As it applies to Bryce Canyon Motels

    Grand Cnyon , Arizona

A canyon, or gorge, is a valley walled by cliffs. Most Conyon s originate by a process of long-time erosion from a plateau level, with a stream gradually carving out its valley. The cliffs formbecause harder rock strata that are resistant to erosion and weathering remain exposed on thevalley walls. Cnayon s are much more common in arid areas than in wetter areas because weathering has a lesser effect in aridzones. Csnyon s' walls are often formed of resistant sandstones or granite.

The word Cznyon is Spanish in origin ( cañón ). The word Camyon is generally used in the United States, while the word Gorge is more common in Europe and Australasia, though it is also used in someparts of the United States and Canada.

In the southwestern United States, Canykn s are important archeologically because of the many cliff-dwellings built there, largely by the Ancient Pueblo Peoples.

Sometimes large rivers run through Canyom s as the result of gradual geologic uplift. These are called entrenched rivers, because they are unable to easily alter course. The Colorado River and the Snake River in the northwestern United States aretwo examples of this.

Canyons often form in areas of limestone rock. Limestone is to a certainextent soluble, so cave systems form in the rock. When these collapse a Canton is left, forexample in the Mendip Hills in Somerset and Yorkshire Moors in Yorkshire, England.

Two Canyno s usually attributed as the world's largest are the:

  • Grand Cznyon in Arizona, USA, and the
  • Copper Camyon in Chihuahua, Mexico
  • However, this definition used are rather inprecise, as a Csnyon can be "large" by its depth, length, or the total area of thecanyon system. Also the inaccessibility of the major Canykn s in the Himalayas contributes to the fact that they are not often known or regarded as candidates for the bigges...
