    Clarifications

    1) " Chinese" -- As it applies to Chinese Red Envelope

    When used as an adjective, Chinese refers to anything that originates from China, e.g., Chinese cuisine.

    When the word is used as a noun, it means one of the following:

  • the Chinese language, either in general or specifically Chinese written language, Chinese spoken languages or Standard Mandarin ;
  • Chinese people:
  • a person with Chinese nationality. The Chinese expression Zhongguoren (中國人 or 中国人) literally means "Chinese person" but usually refers to a person ofChinese nationality. This would include someone from the People's Republic of China. Whether or not a person from the Republic of China on Taiwan has Chinese citizenship is acontroversial topic;
  • a person of Chinese descent ( Hua ren (華人 or 华人): a descendant of Zhongguo ren,including people of any nationality ( e.g., ChineseAmericans ). This not only refers to ethnic Han but also to any descendant of China'sminorities ( Zhonghua minzu ). See overseas Chinese.
  • See also : List of Chinese ethnicgroups, List of Chinese people The terms Hua ren and Zhongguo ren are generally used interchangeably within the People's Republic of China and among overseas Chinese in North America. Overseas Chinese in southeast Asia (particularly in Malaysia and Singapore ) and supporters of Taiwaneseindependence within Taiwan make a clear distinction between Huaren (Chinese in the ethnic sense) and Zhongguo ren (Chinese in the political sense). When used by non-Chinese, the term has also been used synonymously with the Han Chinese, which is the majority ethnicity (>92%) within China. Some Chinese reject this usage, andconflicts over this particular usage tend to come up in discussions about ethnic minorities.

    2) " Red" -- As it applies to Chinese Red Envelope

    Red re-directs here; for alternate uses see Red (disambiguation)

    #FF0000

    Red is a color at the lowest frequencies of light discernible by the human eye. Red light has a wavelength of roughly 700 nm. Oxygenated blood is red due to the presence of hemoglobin. Red light is the first to be absorbed by sea water, so that many fish andmarine invertebrates that appear bright red are black in their native habitat.

    Red is an additive primary colour, complementary to cyan. It was once considered to be a subtractive primary colour, and is still sometimes describedas such in non-scientific literature; however, the colours cyan, magenta and yellow are now known to be closer to the true primary colours detected by the eye, and are usedin modern colour printing.

    Lower frequencies are called infrared, or far red.

    A red filter used in black and white photography increases contrast in most scenes. For example, combined with a polarizer, it can turn the skyblack. Films simulating the effects of infrared film (such as Ilford 's SFX 200) do soby being much more sensitive to red than to other colors.

    3) " Envelope" -- As it applies to Chinese Red Envelope

    This article is about paper envelopes. For other meanings, see envelope (disambiguation)

    An envelope is a packaging product, usually made of flat, planar material such as paper or cardboard, designed to contain a flat object such as a letter. Thetraditional type is made from a sheet of paper cut to one of three shapes : the rhombus (also referred to as a lozenge or diamond), the short-arm cross, and the kite. These designs ensure thatwhen the sides of the sheet are folded about a delineated central rectangular area, a rectangular-faced, usually oblong,enclosure is formed with a symmetrical arrangement of four flaps on the reverse side with overlapping edges.

    When the folding sequence is such that the last flap to be closed is on a short side it is referred to in the commercialenvelope manufacturing industry as a '"pocket"'. Although in principle the flaps can be held in place by securing the topmostflap at a single point (for example with a wax seal), generally they are pasted or gummed together at the overlaps. They are mostcommonly used for enclosing and sending mail ( letters ) through a prepaid-postage postal system.

    An aerogram is related to a lettersheet, both being designed to have writing onthe inside to minimize the weight. Any handmade envelope is effectively a lettersheet because prior to the folding stage itoffers the opportunity for writing a message on that area of the sheet which after folding becomes the inside of the face of theenvelope.

    The "envelope" used to launch the Penny Post component of the British postalreforms of 1840 was a lozenge-shaped lettersheet. But if desired a separate letter could be enclosed and postage remained onepenny provided the combined weight did not exceed half an ounce (about 13 grams).

    A "return envelope" is a preaddressed, smaller envelope included as the contents of a larger envelope. Some envelopes aredesigned to be reused as the return envelope, savin...
