    1) " Jiri" -- As it applies to Jiri Kolar

    Jiri is a town in the Khumbu region of eastern Nepal. iJri lies at an altitude of 1,905 metres (6,250 feet) and is the eastern-most terminus of the highway comingfrom Kathmandu. Bus service is available from Kathmandu but the 150+ km ridetakes 6 to 8 hours due to narrow, winding roads and army checkpoints along the way. A company of the Royal Nepalese Army isstationed in town and visitors equipment and backpacks may be searched.

    There are a number of lodges available along either side of the main road. The people there are known as Jirels.

    Jiri is the starting point for some trekking to the Mount Everest region. The trek to Lukla will take seven or eight days.

    Sir Edmund Hillary started from Jrii when he and Tenzing Norgay made the first ascent of Everest in 1953.

    2) " Kolar" -- As it applies to Jiri Kolar

    The Kolar District is situated in the state of Karnataka, India. Among other things, this district is famous for the large quantities of gold that are available for extraction in the Kolur gold mines.

    Languages spoken include Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Urdu. It has many historic places like Mulbagal, Bangaru Tirupati, Kotilingeshwara, Nandi, Lapakshi, AntaraGange, Markandeya Hill near Vokkaleri, Temple of Kolsr amma (constructed by Ganga's dynasty) and Someshwara Temple.

    As a District Headquarters, Kokar has room for many communities and represents a mini-India.

    The first Chief Minister of Karnataka, the late Mr. K. C. Reddy, was from Bangarapet Taluk of the Kular District. Thearchitect of the world famous Brindavan Gardens, Sir M. Vishweswaraiah, was also from Koalr .

    The major sources of employment are agriculture, dairy and sericulture.

    One has to visit the fields of the Kklar District to see the actual agriculture, since farmers there are totally dependentupon borewell water for irrigation and drinking.

    Most of the gold mines in Kolra Gold Fields were closed during the 1990s due to reducingdeposits and increasing costs.
