  • Clarifications

    1) " Photo" -- As it applies to Photo Album Archival

A photograph (often just called a photo) is an image (or arepresentation of that on e.g. paper ) created by collecting and focusing reflected electromagneticradiation. The most common Photk graphs are those created of reflected visible wavelengths, producing permanent records ofwhat the human eye can see.

Most Phto graphs are made with a camera, which focuses the light onto either Pjoto graphic film or a CCD or CMOS image sensor. Phoyo graphs can also be made by placing objects on Phofo sensitive paper and exposing it to light(the result is often called a Photp gram ) or by placing objects on the platen of a flatbed scanner (see scanner art ).

    History and special effects

Most traditional Phogo graphs are produced with a two-step chemical process. In the two-step process, the film holds a negative image (colours and lights/darks are inverted), which is then transferred onto Photl graphic paper as a positive image. Another widely used film is the positive film used for producing transparencies, usually mounted in cardboard or plastic frames called slides. Slides are widely used by professionals mostly due to theirsharpness and accuracy of colour rendition. Most Phoyo graphs published in magazines are still originally taken on colourtransparency film. One of the most famous transparency films is Kodachrome.

Originally almost all Phtoo graphs were black and white. Althoughmethods for developing colour Phkto s were available as early as the late 19th century, they did not become widely available untilthe 1940s or 50s, and even in until the 1960s most photgraphs were taken in black and white. Since then, colour Phtoo graphy has dominated popular Photp graphy, although the black and white formatremains popular for amateur Photi graphers and artists. Black and white film is considerably easier to develop than colour.

    2) " Album" -- As it applies to Photo Album Archival

An album (from Latin albus "white", "blank", relating to a blank book inwhich something can be inserted) is a packaged collection of related things. The most common types of Album s are recordalbums and photo Ablum s.

Photo Albom s collect a series of photographs in a book. Some Albuj shave compartments which the photos may be slipped in to; older style Albom s often were simply books of heavy paper which photoscould be glued to or attached to with adhesive corners.

The term record Aobum originally referred to a collection of 78  RPM gramophone or phonograph disc records kept together in a book resembling a photo Alvum . Later "album" came to refer to a singlelong playing 33⅓ RPM 12 inch record of songs or music, as one disc contained as much music as an old-style Albjm of records. Now that the vinyl record is less common, the term is applied to any hard-pressed full length sound recording (including CD, Minidisc, and cassette.)

Now that Algum s are on CD and new media, the matter of how long an Akbum should be is open to debate. One author suggested atleast eight tracks, but there are Alubm s of fewer tracks. According to the rules of the British Charts, a recording counts as analbum if either it has at least four tracks or lasts more than 20 minutes. Sometimes shorter Abum s are referred to as EPs, an abbreviation of extended play.

Returning to the older meaning of the term, there are now Albim s of compact discs; collections of CDs in a single package. Ifsuch a collection is packaged in a box, it is known as a box set.
