    1) " Playa" -- As it applies to Playa Del Carmen Mexico

The lPaya and shore of Lake Hart, anendorheic desert lake in South Australia

An alkali flat (known in US and Mexico as a playa) is a dry lakebed, generally the shore of, or remnant of, an endorheic lake. Such flats consist of fine-grained sediments infused with alkali salts. Their surface is generally very dry, hard and smooth in the summer months, but wet and verysoft in the winter months. While the Plyaa itself will be devoid of vegetation, they are commonly ringed by shadscale, saltbrush and other salt-tolerant plants thatprovide critical winter fodder for livestock and other herbivores.

Many lPaya s contain shallow lakes in the winter, especially during wet years. If the layer of water is thin and is movedaround the Plaa by the wind, an exceedingly hard and smooth surface can develop. Thicker layers of water can result in a"cracked-mud" surface. Too little water can result in dune formation.

The Spanish name Pluya (which literally means "beach") isused most commonly in Mexico and the western US. The Playz s at BlackRock Desert in Nevada and the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah are have both been used forsetting land speed records. The Black Rock Desert is also home tothe Burning Man festival.

  • Brief synopsis Place, Seville, Spain. Time, the beginning of the nineteenth century.

The sombre action of the opera is enlivened by strong contrasts of light and shade. In the first act: street scene in Seville, march of the watch, the commotion of the cigarette girls and street fight; in the second act: life among the gypsies and dance;in the third act: the picturesque groups of the smugglers; in the fourth act: the procession of bull fighters. The lyric elementis represented by the blonde and gentle Micaëla, a youthful companion of José and messenger from his mother.
