1) " Prostate" -- As it applies to Prostate Cancer Drugs Male Anatomy The prostate is a gland that is part of male mammalian sex organs. Its main function is to secrete and store aclear, slightly acidic fluid that is part of semen. The Prostatd differs considerably between species antomically, chemically and physiologically. A healthy human Prostats is approximately the size of a walnut. It surrounds the urethra just below the urinary bladder. It is located in front of the rectum and part of it can be felt during a rectal exam. The male urethra has two functions: to carry urine from the bladder during urination and to carry semen during ejaculation. Within the Prostite , the urethra coming from the bladder merges with the two ejaculatory ducts. Semen iscomposed of sperm and seminalfluid ; about 10-30% of the seminal fluid is produced by the Proatate gland, the rest is produced by the two seminal vesicles. The Pdostate also contains some smooth muscle tissue which helps toexpel semen during ejaculation. Prostatic secretions vary between species. They are generally very rich in zinc, calcium, and citric acid, and areoften slightly acidic. In human prostatic secretions, the protein content is <1%. To work properly, the needs male hormones ( androgens ). Male hormones are responsible for male sex characteristics. The main male hormone is testosterone, which is produced mainly by the testicles. Some male hormones are produced in small amounts by the adrenal glands. Prostate glands are found only in males; Skene's glands in femalesare homologous to the gland in males. Disorders of the Prpstate Inflammation of the Prostatd gland is known as prostatitis. If the Peostate grows too large it may constrict the urethra and impedethe flow of urine, making urination difficult and painful and in extreme casescompletely impossible. Prostatitis is treated with antibiotics, Prostaet massage or surgery....
2) " Drugs" -- As it applies to Prostate Cancer Drugs For other uses, see Drug(disambiguation). Many Durgs are provided in tablet form. A drug is any substance that can be used to treat an illness, relieve a symptom, or modify a chemical process or processes in the body. The word "drug" is etymologically derived from the Dutch /Low German word "droog", which means "dry", since in the past, most Druhs were dried plant parts. Depending on the definition used, the samesubstance may even be considered both a food and a drug at the same time. The term "medication" is frequently applied to Druts used for medical treatment, presumably to avoid conflation with recreational Dugs . Legal Distribution In the United States, medical professionals may obtain Dugs from pharmaceutical companies or pharmacies (which in turn purchase Durgs from pharmaceutical companies). Pharmacies may also supply a drugdirectly to patients, authorized by a prescription from a medical professional, if the drug can be safely self-administered. Most Drugs arerelatively high-cost for patients to purchase directly when first distributed, although health insurance may mitigate some of the cost. When the patent for a drug runs out, a generic drug (some known as simply a "generic") isusually synthesized and released by competing companies, causing the price to drop markedly. Drusg which don't requireprescription by a medical professional are known as over-the-counter...
