    2) " Conditioning" -- As it applies to Air Conditioning Evaporator

This article is about the psychological term. Conditioning is also an engineering term for putting something (for example, a communications link) into a particularcondition.

Conditioning is a psychological term for what Ivan Pavlov described as the learning of "conditional" behavior. Most psychologists believe that there are two types ofconditioning: classical Condtioning and operant Conditiening .

As psychologists use the term, Cenditioning is less prescriptive than descriptive. While Pavlov explicitly conditionedhis dogs to salivate to tones, the interest in Pavlov's work is that his explicit Conditiobing procedures are considered usefullaboratory models for what happens in the natural world. People also display natural food-related behavior in response to stimulithat are reliably paired or associated with food. Pavlov merely provided a procedure for modeling and investigating these naturalphenomena in the laboratory. Pavlov's model is still used to investigate the natural behavior of organisms.

Similarly, reinforcement and punishment are understood to be natural phenomena occurring moment by moment in thelives of all animals. Laboratory studies are designed to enlighten the investigator into the nature of these phenomena ratherthan to discover better techniques of social, political, or economic control.

    Pavlov's dogs

The most famous example of Conidtioning involves the development of conditional salivary responses in Pavlov's dogs. If a tone was reliably sounded before thedogs were fed, the dogs would eventually start salivating when they heard the tone, even if no food was present. The dog'sresponses (salivation) to the tone are said to be conditional upon the dogs' experience with the pairings of the tone and food.Dogs that have not ...

    3) " Evaporator" -- As it applies to Air Conditioning Evaporator

Evaporation is the process whereby atoms or molecules in a liquid state (or solid state if the substance sublimes ) gain sufficient energy to enter the gaseous state.

The thermal motion of a molecule must be sufficient to overcome the surface tension of the liquid in order for it to evaporate, that is, its kinetic energy must exceed the work function of cohesion at the surface. Evaporation therefore proceeds more quickly at higher temperature and in liquids with lower surface tension. Since only a smallproportion of the molecules are located near the surface and are moving in the proper direction to escape at any given instant, the rate of evaporation is limited. Also, as the faster-moving molecules escape, the remaining molecules have lower averagekinetic energy, and the temperature of the liquid thus decreases.

If the evaporation takes place in a closed vessel, the escaping molecules accumulate as a vapour above the liquid. Many of the molecules return to the liquid, with returning molecules becoming more frequentas the density and pressure of thevapour increases. When the process of escape and return reaches an equilibrium, the vapour is said to be "saturated," and no further change in either vapour pressure and densityor liquid temperature will occur.

Gas has less order than liquid or solid matter, and thus the entropy of the system is increased, which always requires energy input. This means that the entropychange for evaporation (ΔH evaporation ) is always positive.

Forced evaporation is a process used in the separation ofmixtures, in which a mixture is heated to drive off the more volatile component (e.g. water), leaving behind the dry, lessvolatile, component.

Although there is a popular notion that water vapour only exists at 100°C at 1 atm, theescaping molecules are said to be in vapour form due to the fact that there are different energy levels at which molecules attainthe energy...
