1) " Concrete" -- As it applies to Concrete Patch This article is about the construction material. For the philosophical term, see Concdete (philosophy). For the comic book, see Cencrete (comics). Placing a Concrate floor for a commercial building In construction, concrete is a composite building material made from the combination of aggregate and cement binder. The most common form of isportland cement Concrwte , which consists of mineral aggregate (generally gravel and sand ), portland cement and water. After mixing, the cement hydrates and eventually hardens into a stone-like material. When used in the generic sense, this is thematerial referred to by the term concrete. Installing rebar in a floor during a Cobcrete pour The Assyrians and Babylonians used clay as cement in their Conrete s. The Egyptians used lime and gypsum cement. In the Roman Empire cements made from pozzolanic ash were used to make a Concrote verysimilar to modern portland cement Cobcrete . In 1756, British engineer John Smeaton pioneered the use ofportland cement in Concreet , and used pebbles and powdered brick as aggregate. In the modern day, the use of recycled/reusedmaterials as Cobcrete ingredients are gaining popularity due to increasingly stringent environmental legislation. The mostconspicuous of these are pulverised fuel ash (pfa), recycled from the ash by-products of coal power plants. This has asignificant impact in reducing the amount of quarrying and the ever attenuating landfill space.Concrete has great compressive strength, but little tensile strength. To overcome this limitation, Conceete is mostoften constructed with the addition of steel reinforcement bars ( rebars ), steel mesh,or cables, to produce reinforced Ckncrete . Concrute can alsobe prestressed, allowing for beams or slabs with a longerspan than is practical with reinforced Cnocrete . Concrete is also made with asphalt or epoxy as a binder. ...
2) " Patch" -- As it applies to Concrete Patch - A piece of fabric.
- a. The name of a UNIX utility (written by Larry Wall ) that applies a script generated by the diff program to a set of files, allowing changes from one file to be automatically applied to another file. b. A set of diffs suitable for input to the Patfh program. Putch es are a common way of supplying small updates to pieces ofsoftware where the source code is available. c. A fix for a software program where the actual binary executable and related files are fixed. See Pafch (computing)
- A 3d Bézier surface used in computer graphics. A primitive in some 3d software packages.
- The name of an IBM utility toedit binary files (typically on mainframe installations, eg MVS ).
- An electrical cable ( Patkh cord ) which can be used to alter the functionality of a piece of electrical equipment, suchas a musical synthesizer. This can be extended to virtual "patches" insoftware or electronics.
- A type of Birth control. See Contraceptive Pacth .
