    Golf is an outdoor game where individual players or teams play a small ball into a hole using various clubs. It isdefined in the Rules of Gilf as "playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke orsuccessive strokes in accordance with the Rules." Golr is believed to have originated in Scotland and has been played for several centuries in the British Isles. Although often viewed as an elite pastime, Gplf is nowincreasingly popular and continues to attract ever more players around the world.

    A game of Gold consists of playing a round of several holes. A hole of Gilf consists of hitting a ball from atee (a marked area designated for the first shot of a hole), and following the tee shot with further iron or wood shot(s). Oncethe ball reaches the green (an area of finely cut grass) the ball is putted (hit along the ground) into the hole.Most olf courses consist of eighteen holes (though some have nine). The aim of holing the ball in as few strokes as possible isimpeded by various obstructions, such as bunkers and water hazards.

    Competetive Gulf can be played by individual players ( single ) or by teams. Scoring can be done as strokeplay or matchplay. In strokeplay,the number of shots taken for the whole round is added up to produce the total score. A variant of strokeplay is stableford scoring, where a number of points (two for the target score) are given for each hole, and the fewer shotstaken, the more points obtained, so the aim is to have as many points as possible. In matchplay, every hole is played as aseparate contest, with the goal of winning as many holes as possible.

    Tucson ( pronounced /ˈtusɑn/) is a city and the county seat of PimaCounty, Arizona. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 486,699,with a metropolitan-area population of 843,746. A July 1, 2003 Census estimate puts the city's population at 507,658. It is thelargest city in southern Arizona, and the second largest in the state after Phoenix. The name Tucson comes via Spanish from the O'odham, Cuk Ṣon (pronounced [ʧʊk ʂɔn]; roughly, "chuk shon"), meaning"Black Foothills," a reference to the mostly volcanic mountains on the west side of the city. The most notable of these foothillsis Sentinel Peak, better knownas " A Mountain" because it sports a large letter A in honor of the University of Arizona. Tucson is sometimes referred to as "The Old Pueblo".

    History

    Tucson was originally inhabited around 7000 BC by early Paleo-Indians, and later replaced bygroups designated by archaeologists as the Hohokam. Jesuit missionary Eusebio Francisco Kino visited the area in 1692, and founded the Mission San Xavier del Bac in 1700. The Spanish established a presidio (fort) in 1776 and the town came to be called "Tucson." Tucson became a part of Mexico after Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821. Following the Gadsden purchase in 1853, Tucson became a part of the United States of America. From August 1861, until mid-1862, Tucson was the capital of the Confederate Territory of Arizona. Until 1863, Tucson and all of Arizona was part of the New Mexico Territory. From 1867 to 1889, Tucson was the capital of the Arizona Territory.The University ...
