STONE TEMPLE PILOTS

(click on cd to purchase)
"Shangri-la Dee Da"
(Atlantic)

RATINGS are 1 (Weakest) to 5 (Strongest) (+ Push, - Pull)

1) "DUMB LOVE" (2+) Right out of the "Purple" gendre. Vocals
marked by thrashing guitars.

2) "DAYS OF THE WEEK" (4-) Made for the airwaves. More pop-ish.
Less of the heavy rock. (Possible Top 40 Breaker).

3) " COMA" (2) Back to the rock. Psychedelic bridge.

4) "HOLLYWOOD BITCH" (3) Reminds me of Elastica. Good songwriting
w/ nice change ups.

5) "WONDERFUL" (4+) My favorite. Has a Beatles bent. A catchy tune
(I like STP w/ this softer side).

6) "BLACK AGAIN" (3) Jungle beat percussion to start. Robbie Williams
interlude.

7) "HELLO IT'S LATE" (4-) Reminds me of Lenny Kravitz. (Again the
softer side has a nice touch.) Possible Triple A hit.

8) "TOO COOL QUEENIE" (2) "Smithereen" vocals. (A different sound
For Scott Weiland).

9) "REGENERATION" (3+) Attention grabbing opening guitar riff. This
one kept my attention.

10) "BI-POLAR BEAR" (3) Potent psychodrama lyrics. Helter skelter
refrain. (matches the lyrics.)

11) "TRANSMISSIONS FROM A LONELY ROOM" (2-) Generic STP (like
Purple).

12) "A SONG FOR SLEEPING" (4) Again "softer" works. Scott's vocals
are amazing. Flowing acoustical hook.

13) "LONG WAY HOME" (2) A typical sounding final song.

OVERALL COMMENTS: I really like the direction towards a softer sound.
Kudos to popular producer Brendan O'Brien. Scott's vocals are the
Best ever.

OVERALL RATING: 3+
