PETE YORN

"Music For The Morning After" (SONY/COLUMBIA)
1.
"LIFE ON A CHAIN" (4) Killer! A cross between Son Volt
and Wilco with Peter Buck back picking. I really liked this.
2. "STRANGE CONDITION" (4)- A strong followup to "Life
On A Chain". I like the synthesizer effect.
3. "JUST ANOTHER" (3+) Reminds me of the Velvet Underground.
Has a '70's Subplot. Dreamy chorus.
4. "BLACK" (4-) A choppy atonal start with an in-your
face hook. The programming's great. Possible sleeper single.
5. "LOSE YOU" (3+) Nice to hear the intermingling of keyboards.
6. "FOR NANCY" (3+) A Go Go's like beat. A straight forward
rock song in the alternative sense. Thrashing guitars.
7. "MURRAY" (3) Wavy gravy effects. Vocals are hidden
under the music but it works. Uses a Casio keyboard !!
8. "JUNE" (4) Somewhere Donovan's smiling. Another sleeper.
9. "SENSE" (4) Beck-like vocals and nice mix of acoustic
and electric guitars with a bombastic hook.
10. "CLOSET" (3+) May get radio play. This song has cool
change-ups.
11. "ON YOUR SIDE" (3) "On Your Side" has a
softer side. The vocals are more apparent.
12. "SLEEP BETTER" (3+) Catchy guitar progression. A feel-good
hook.
13. "E-Z" (4) A coffee-house special. Refreshing to hear
and a simple acoustic production.
14. "SIMONIZE" (3-) Phase shifted symbols. Typical finish-up
song.

COMMENTS: Simply one of the best I've reviewed for 2001! It is MADE
for the Triple A format but could cross over. I kept waiting for
a letdown and it never happened. Similar to Coldplay, but more commercial.
Guitar driven all the way !!
