ADULT ALTERNATIVE REVIEW
by John Rose

DAVE MATTHEWS BAND

(click cd to purchase)
"Everyday"(CD)(RCA Records)

RATINGS are 1 (Weakest) to 5 (Strongest) (+ Push, - Pull)

1) "I DID IT"(3-) I don't think this is a strong first single- never really"got it"
2)"WHEN THE WORLD ENDS"(4-) Nice jazzy acoustical sound- Good
hook !- Better recording than "I Did It".
3)"THE SPACE BETWEEN" (4+) Possible single ! - good songwriting.
4)"DREAMS OF OUR FATHERS"(3-)- Interesting opening guitar- line with
bass following; not a standout though !!
5)"SO RIGHT"(4)- Rolling baseline- first"horns"song. Interesting ! -Personal
favorite and possible single.
6) "IF I HAD IT ALL"(3+) - has an "atonal"feel. Bridge in the song is a nice
changeup.
7) "WHAT YOU ARE"(3) - The strings standout.
8) "ANGEL" (4) - First slower tempo song. I really liked this one !- Probably
not a single though.
9)"COOL TO THINK"(3) - Interesting beat accents. Won't raise eyebrows.
10)"SLEEP TO DREAM HER" (2+) - "Melancholy feel. Only the bridge
stands out.
11)"MOTHER FATHER(3-) Spanish feel w/Santana's acoustic and electric.
12)"EVERYDAY" (2-) Not much more than the title track.

OVERALL COMMENTS: Tough to pick a standout 2nd single. These songs are "made" for live performances. Stefan Lessard is a great bass player. Benuford is also a good percussionist.
