COLDPLAY

(click cd to purchase)
"Parachutes" (EMD/CAPITOL)

RATINGS are 1 (Weakest) to 5 (Strongest) (+ Push, - Pull)

1) "DON'T PANIC" (2+) Dreamy U2 like melodies but without single potential.
2) "SHIVER" (3-) Vocals remind me of the late Jeff Buckley and has
some potential.
3) "SPIES" (2+) Nice guitar layering w/ tremelo effect. Reminiscent
of Pink Floyd's "Meddle".
4) "SPARKS" (2) A downtempo number. Vocals remind me of Dave
Matthews.
5) "YELLOW" (5+) A chart topper !!. Masterful vocals against rhytmnic
guitars. Nice electric interlude.
6)"TROUBLE" (4-) Surreal melody with nice piano additions. Possible
second single.
7)"PARACHUTES" (2) A short song. Very simple production.
8)"HIGH SPEED" (3) Interesting guitar work. -reminds me of the Charlatans
U.K.
9)"WE NEVER CHANGE(2) Droning melody. Not a standout though.
10)"EVERYTHING's NOT LOST"(3) Another downtempo song- nice hook.

OVERALL COMMENTS: This album is creative with the feel of Radiohead. Probably won't get much airplay on A.A. stations with the exception of "Yellow". Overall 2.8 -3.0

COMING NEXT WEEK: John will be reviewing the new Stevie Nicks "Everyday" along with Dido .Other upcoming reviews will incldue Semisonic, Jeffrey Gaines, Spacehog, Phil Roy and Lifehouse. Stay tuned !!!
