A Bird, Now
Antony plays tomorrow night at the Barnsdall. I’ve never been there, so your guess is as good as mine as to where it is, but you should hunt it down. If his live show is half as moving as his record, it’ll be a show to see.

I’m just gonna come out and say it: go buy the new Antony and the Johnsons record, “I Am a Bird Now.” It’s outstanding, though it may take a listen or two before you acquire a taste for it. It’s like nothing else out there, though it’s also a lot like early Velvet Underground – credit Antony’s stint as Lou Reed’s backing singer on the last tour? – and it’s also weirdly like the spooky music you hear in movies when characters go to heaven. If only for the amazing “Fistful of Love” – destined to be one of the highlights of the year – you must purchase this thing.
